Product Description

Honoring the Mission Tribute-On April 13, 1970, five unforgettable words were uttered: "Houston we've had a problem." Astronauts Jim Lovell, Fred Haise and Jack Swigert made up the crew of Apollo 13. This mission was to be NASA's third lunar landing, but when an oxygen tank exploded half way to the Moon, the landing was scrubbed and the crew found themselves in serious peril. What transpired over the next four days gripped the world's attention. With eyes of the world upon them, Mission Control in Houston worked with the crew to overcome innumerable obstacles that ultimately resulted in the successful splashdown of the craft and crew on April 17, 1970. On the same date in 2010, the heroes of Apollo 13 from Mission Control and the crew came together at the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center in Hutchinson, Kansas to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the safe return of the crew of Apollo 13..."Mission Control's Finest Hour." Premier space author Andrew Chaikin moderates the evening's special guest panel. In attendance that evening were Apollo 13 Astronauts Jim Lovell and Fred Haise; along with Flight Directors Gene Kranz, Gerry Griffin, and Milt Windler; Flight Controllers Ed Fendell, Jerry Bostick, and Sy Liebergot; Astronauts and Capcoms Joe Kerwin and Jack Lousma; Apollo 12 Astronaut Alan Bean; and Pad-Leader Guenter Wendt.
